Communauto wants to pay to rent out your car
Jon Manweiller and Michelle Delisle-Boutin prepare to go out with a car supplied by Communauto at Centre Marcel Giroux in Verdun. As members of the car sharing service members can have access to a vehicle without all the major expenses associated with ownig. Jon and Michelle will use the car for 4 hours to do errands and take material to the local Eco-centre Thursday, March 18, 2010.
Yesterday, the car-share service announced it was going after car owners as well. Peer-to-Peer Car Sharing, set to launch its pilot project this summer, will allow car owners to share their own cars with 18,000 other Communauto members. "We have to test some aspects like the length of the rentals, the procedures to share, and the pricing," said Marco Viviani, public relations director for Communauto. [...] Communauto's 800 cars are located in 288 parking stations around Montreal. Members can rent a car for as short or as long as they like. The P2P pilot project will also launch in Quebec City.
