Transit users to get deal
on car sharing

The Montreal Transport Corp. is reaching out to commuters who sometimes need to be motorists with a plan that would see the purchase of 12 months worth of transit passes translated into discounted membership in a car sharing network.

Communauto, which offers car rentals as short term as 30 minutes, is the MTC's partner in the scheme, which has already been undertaken with transit authorities in Quebec City, Laval, Gatineau and Sherbrooke."With today's announcement," said Communauto president Benoît Robert, "We're present in every major city in Quebec."

The contract calls for users to allow Communauto to debit their bank account for the cost of each monthly pass along with a $5 monthly fee, thereby making sure the transit passes are purchased. The network then mails thetransit pass to the customer.
